Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric VLE range with additional entry versions and a new VLE 400 4MATIC with all-wheel drive.
The VLE is positioned as a high-comfort electric people carrier, in configurations seating up to eight. Mercedes uses the model to bridge family use, executive transport and luxury MPVs.
The new VLE 400 4MATIC adds all-wheel drive, and Mercedes has also introduced more affordable configurations and further personalisation options.
Large cabins demand substantial cooling, which can affect energy consumption at high temperatures.
In Europe the company lists the five-seat electric VLE 300 from €70,735.39 including tax, though that figure should not be taken as a Gulf price. Duties, local specification and distributor pricing can produce entirely different final numbers in the Gulf states.
The model is relevant to the Middle East because luxury multi-seat vehicles serve distinct segments, including large families, hotels, chauffeur companies and corporate fleets.
Electrification may work particularly well for vehicles that return to a fixed base each day, where overnight or depot charging reduces reliance on public chargers.
But air conditioning and sustained motorway use are significant considerations in the Gulf. Large cabins demand substantial cooling, which can affect energy consumption at high temperatures.
All-wheel drive may also appeal to buyers seeking greater stability and stronger performance, although the VLE is built primarily around comfort and passenger space rather than off-road use.
Mercedes’ range expansion shows that electric people carriers are becoming more segmented, as manufacturers move from a single launch version to multiple configurations of power, seating and equipment.
Gulf Auto will watch for confirmation of the VLE line-up in the Middle East. Local prices, battery specification, range, charging performance and service support will determine whether it can compete against luxury SUVs and traditional premium vans.
